Construction set to start on the west side alleys of Main Street

Construction Set to Start on the West Side Alleys of Main Street

Construction of the Downtown Alleyscape and Breezeway Project, located on the west side of Main St. between 3rd and 6th Avenue, is scheduled to begin the week of February 8, 2016 weather permitting. The City of Longmont, in cooperation with the Longmont Downtown Development Authority (LDDA), has contracted with DeFalco Construction Company to complete Phase 2 of the project. Phase 1 improvements on the east side of Main St. were completed in 2013.

Construction will begin on the 300 west block of Main St. and move north to the 400 and 500 blocks consecutively. Construction in each block is anticipated to last 3-4 months with the project being completed by mid-November, 2016. Improvements will focus on the alley, parking lots, and breezeways and include undergrounding the overhead utilities, installing new lighting, adding landscaping, and installing porous pavers to increase drainage capacity. Los Arcos de Longmont will also be re-installed in the breezeways.

The west-side alley and breezeway on each block will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic during construction on the block. Public parking in the 300 and 500 block parking lots between Main St. and Coffman will be limited to accommodate construction equipment. A map of nearby public parking options can be found at DowntownLongmont.com/Alleyscape. All businesses in the construction zone will be open for business as usual. For safety reasons, access to businesses during construction will be through Main St. and Avenue entrances only. Contact individual businesses for special assistance and hours of operation.
