Contemplative Reading applies ancient practices to contemporary poetry. These practices open up a whole new world of reading experiences and provide new and deeper perspectives on life. We’ll teach you how to apply sacred reading practices to secular texts. Contemplative Reading helps you to get the most out of literature and life!
This month, we will be working with two or more of the following poems by Joy Harjo!
Joy Harjo was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. She earned her BA from the University of New Mexico and MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Harjo draws on First Nation storytelling and histories, as well as feminist and social justice poetic traditions, and frequently incorporates indigenous myths, symbols, and values into her writing. She was named U.S. poet laureate in June 2019.
