Julie Threatte is the Julie behind Julie BaBulie Ceramics, based in Longmont, Colorado.
I came to clay late — at 38, after a twenty year career as a classical violist. A chance visit to ceramicist acquaintances in Chicago sparked an arguably unhealthy obsession in something I had never tried before. Completely self-taught through sheer stubbornness and a lot of Florian Gadsby videos, I work out of a sheet-fort studio in my unfinished basement, exploring wheel throwing, hand building, slab work, and carving. I love functional and non-functional ware equally and am still happily figuring out my artistic voice, which I suspect will be a lifelong endeavor.
When I am not ceramicising, I'm working for our small company (Barton Cane). We process cane for oboe and bassoon reeds. I am also annoyingly obsessed with my perfect dog and we do everything for her. She is spoiled beyond reason.
