Tatyana Grechina
Longmont, CO
Through vibrant palettes, dynamic forms, and expressive mark-making, Tatyana's paintings explore memory, emotion and presence. Graduating from the SC Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities with a focus in Visual Arts/Painting and receiving her BFA in Painting and Drawing from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, Tatyana builds imagery through shapes and colors as memories accumulate and recede. Sometimes, her work feels sharp with clarity, sometimes it dissolves into abstraction – honoring the in-between spaces where past and present converge. Tatyana works in both abstract and representational styles, always focusing on color, energy, and the interactions of immersive, gestural marks.
An interest in ancestry, lineage, and storytelling drives Tatyana's practice. She sees communities as living archives, their histories layered across the landscape, with the rhythms of life all around a collective of layered histories. Currently, she's exploring intimate moments of personal history on small-scale works on paper while looking towards other avenues of creating these on a large scale for film and public art. Expanding intimate paintings to monumental, life-sized works mirrors the way connection grows and envelops us, reflecting both personal and communal histories.
