Spanning two months of creation in the South Gallery, The Space Between brings together paintings, collages, and installation. Exploring themes of connection and contrast, the exhibition invites the viewer to a broader reflection on how space, rather than separate us, connects all things within a greater whole.
"The Space Between examines the tension between opposing forces and the unity of those opposites—the unseen energy that binds them. These abstract works dwell in that middle ground, where opposites do not conflict, but define, balance, and complete one another. Dark gives meaning to light; movement emerges from stillness; control finds its counterpart in release. What appears separate is deeply connected. Negative space in a painting, a pause in speech—the space between is not empty. It holds presence. It creates balance, invites reflection, and gives meaning to what surrounds it," says Jackson. Working primarily in large scale formats, Jackson includes portions of Community created marks and drawings in her paintings and collages. Composed of ripped canvas, pencil, torn paper, paint and oil sticks, her paintings shift between fragmentation and expressive brush strokes inviting viewers to uncover the layers of emotion, connection and symbolism.
BIO
Mollie Jackson (she/her) is a Longmont-based artist whose large-scale abstract paintings pulse with energy. Working intuitively, she builds layered surfaces through paint, expressive mark-making, and collage, translating emotion into visual form.
She earned her BFA from the University of Iowa and apprenticed with the Chair of Sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago, refining her understanding of form and process. Raised in a home shaped by her mother’s abstract painting practice, she developed an early and lasting connection to the studio. Jackson has presented solo exhibitions across Colorado and is currently the Artist-in-Residence at the Firehouse Art Center.
