This camp will focus on whimsy, expression, color and texture and creating beautiful quality objects you will treasure for life. Feel free to dress up in costume each day or come cozy and comfy ready to craft and have a joyful time.
This will be a sustainable workshop with most materials being reclaimed or purchased second hand. Feel free to bring any personal or special elements you wish to include in your art.
This camp is designed for ages 12+ including the young at heart.
In depth description
Day 1&2 - Make Baggage Hearts- display your “baggage” on a handmade heart bag- this can be a diagnosis, a phrase you wish to flip and use as an empowered statement etc. We will be making heart shaped purses out of scrappy fabric and choosing words to be printed and cut out on iron on vinyl and adhered to your “statement piece”. Crossbody or handbags- it's up to you! Sewing skills are not essential. We will make it work! A sewing machine will be available as are hand sewing supplies.
Day 3 - Today we will be learning the fundamentals of jewelry making by creating fairy drops and beaded necklaces. Fairy drops are a whimsical version of suncatchers that include translucent glass beads with charms and prisms attached to throw rainbows. This will allow us to work with beading wire and learn closure techniques. Moving on we will be selecting beads and assembling a whimsical beaded wire necklace with lobster clasp closures.
Day 4 - Today we will be creating fairy jewelry hangers. This is a piece that is functional as much as it is a work of art. This project will use dried out driftwood and we will be drilling holes for cup hooks. We will embellish with ribbon, beads, glitter paint, a wood burner, and finalize with a wall hanger.
Day 5 - Today we will be making a hand embroidered whimsical scene of your choosing. We will print out a template, choose colorways of embroidery floss, and learn simple knotting techniques to build texture and shape. You may add beads and golden floss to finish and take home a finished embroidery hoop with a magical scene that you may hang or cut out to use as a patch for later.
