LoCol Square is a new gathering and events space for the entire community to enjoy. This town square is located in the heart of downtown Longmont at the corner of 6th Ave. & Main St. Enjoy the space to relax, reflect, come together, and enjoy art, music, and events.

What is this project?

  • Transformation of a long-vacant former gas station at 600 Main Street into a public downtown plaza (“LoCol Square”)
  • Designed as a welcoming, flexible community gathering space in the heart of Downtown Longmont

Project Goals

  • Create a safe, accessible place for neighbors, visitors, and families
  • Support local businesses by increasing foot traffic and time spent downtown
  • Turn an underused site into a vibrant, people-focused space
  • Reflect Longmont’s identity through art, culture, and community

What to Expect in the Plaza

  • Open seating areas with tables, shade, and gathering space
  • A small stage for occasional performances and community events
  • Rotating public art and murals, featuring local artists (updated regularly)
  • Interactive elements for families and visitors
  • Space for pop-ups, events, and community-led activities
  • A Visitor Center

Programming & Use

  • The plaza is intended to be enjoyed daily as a passive public space
  • Activations will be led by the LDDA and community partners
  • Opportunities for partnerships, grants, and local group use

Construction Timeline (Tentative)

  • Start: July 2026
  • Major groundwork complete: End of September 2026
  • Structures will be placed following groundwork
  • Work is designed to move quickly and minimize long-term disruption

Access & Parking

  • Visitors will be directed to park in The Spoke on Coffman parking garage (across the street)
  • Designed to encourage walking, biking, and nearby access

Safety & Maintenance

  • Night security patrols will regularly monitor the plaza
  • Designed with lighting, visibility, and safety in mind

Community Impact

  • Creates Downtown Longmont’s first true town square
  • Adds a free, inclusive public space for all ages and backgrounds
  • Supports a stronger, more connected and vibrant downtown
