2nd Friday Art Openings

2nd Friday Opening Reception: SEEN at Firehouse Art Center

Live stream tour and artist visit starts at 6:00PM. Gallery doors open at 6:30.
Barbara Rudlaff presents the culmination of her Summer Residency in her solo exhibit “Seen.” Featuring oil portraits of lesbians in her social circle, each portrait is 12”x12” and depicts the subject in a realist style against a white background, wearing a mask for health and safety in response to our current pandemic. They are spaced in the gallery at least six feet apart, commenting on distance while encouraging us to draw closer. This uniformity in presentation encourages the viewer to focus on those details that make each portrait unique, from an emphasis on the eyes to the subjects’ choice of mask design.

In the South Gallery, curated by Barbara Rudlaff: Quilts by Nate George: Inspired by vintage fabrics and renowned paintings in the canon of western art.

Head upstairs to Studio C for a popup exhibition, "Forest For The Trees," with Firehouse Artist Member Joyanna Rose!

Masks and social distancing required. We will be limiting the number of patrons in the gallery at a time.

The Soundpost Sessions - Thomas LaFond & Cornelius Duncan

Looking for a way to experience AND support local Colorado music while staying at home?

Join us on Friday, September 11 at 7pm MDT on Facebook LIVE for our next online edition of The Soundpost Sessions!

Thomas LaFond is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and is known for his songwriting for Banshee Tree and Rose Room. https://www.facebook.com/thomlafondpiano

Cornelius studied drumming with Dumisani and Sherri Maraire in Seattle in the 1970s. He recalls a remarkable incident when his brother Phillip Allen Duncan brought a Hugh Tracey Alto kalimba in his special heptatonic tuning for Dumisani to see. In addition to drums, Cornelius Duncan has also been playing the kalimba in his brother’s tuning since the 1970s. His remarkable skill was recently noticed by his old friend Poncho Sanchez, who saw him on YouTube... Sanchez reconnected with Cornelius, and ended up including him on his new (2019) album “Trane’s Delight”.
