Exhibit Reception - October 10, 2026

Hours: Wednesday - Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm

Main Gallery - Dia de Muertos - Remembering is Resistance

Migration is a human right, and those in search of safe haven bring new ideas and talents with them. In the Firehouse Art Center’s upcoming Día de Muertos exhibit, works will highlight and amplify immigrant voices and voices from the communities harmed by the past and current administration's immigration policies, in a safe and anonymous way.

Artists will partner with affected members of the community to translate their stories, experiences and words into works of art which will then be displayed in the Main Gallery where it serves as both reflection and provocation, supporting dialogue, empowerment, and social awareness. The selected artists will represent a range of mediums—painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, film, and design and the stories shared will represent a variety of experiences, perspectives and cultures.

The Firehouse’s goal for this exhibit is to be a safe space to share these stories, making room for discourse on the feelings of fear, dislocation, and shifts in relationship to the word “Home” and “Free Speech”. Through these collaborations, we hope to harness the power of creativity to ignite conversations, challenge perspectives, and identify common threads while also providing healing and a way to move forward for our community’s betterment.

South Gallery - Catrinas on Parade

The Firehouse Art Center invites local artists to create their representation of La Calavera Catrina. La Calavera Catrina is a zinc etching by the Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada. Originally a commentary on the Mexican natives who, Posada felt, were aspiring to adopt European aristocratic traditions. She has become an icon of the Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead. The Catrina exhibit will open on October 10th, and will be on view until early November at the Firehouse Art Center.

Firehouse Art Center's Gigantes Procession

2:00PM, Starting at the Fiesta; free

The Firehouse Gigantes Procession occurs at the end of the Longmont Dia de Muertos Family Fiesta on October 11th, 2025 around 2pm. We invite the community to process through Downtown Longmont led by Aztec dancers and the Firehouse Gigantes, giant puppets made of papier mâché or cardboard materials. They are approximately 10- 15 feet tall and originated from Spain, but were brought to Mexico around the 1600s. The head and bust of the puppet are made of papier mâché, which is then mounted on a tall supporting A-frame structure.
