Welcome to the Creative District Newsletter!
The great thing about the Creative District is that it doesn't belong to any organization or person. It is living and breathing, and most importantly - it is you!
The goal of this newsletter is to connect you to other creatives, spread information about who you are and what you are doing, and support you by providing helpful resources and tools.
It is still a work in progress, so your feedback is valuable. Please take a look at the email below and let us know what we are missing and what we should change.
Ambiguous thoughts and anecdotes welcome as well! Feel free to respond to this email or reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Meet the Creative District! Learn about what is going on in Longmont and the people that make it happen. Know someone you think should be featured? Send their contact information to email@example.com.
TIM GULSRUD, FOUNDER AND PRINCIPAL OF SOUNDPOST ACOUSTICS
Who are you?
I wear several different hats as an acoustics consultant, audio engineer, concert promoter, and music advocate. My acoustics design consulting firm, Soundpost Acoustics, is based here in the Creative District. I design acoustic interiors for many different types of spaces including recording studios, music venues, restaurants, and churches to name a few. I really enjoy my work because it is an interesting combination of art and science.
What are you up to?
I’ve been working on several different acoustic design projects, including one here in town for the new Dry Land Distillers tasting room. They are opening a new location on Main Street this summer and I’ve been working with them to design interior acoustic treatments that will make it a welcoming place for great cocktails and easy conversation without being too loud.
What do you have going on this month?
I’m planning to re-start my listening room concert series, The Soundpost Sessions. I started hosting these live music events in 2019 at La Vita Bella Café with my friend Jessica Carson. We switched to doing online shows during the pandemic, and now I’m really excited at the prospect of producing live shows again in downtown Longmont. Starting on July 10 we’ll be hosting concerts once a month on Second Saturdays at Longmont Public Media. We will professionally record the shows with a small live audience so they can be re-broadcast on LPM’s public access TV station. LPM is an amazing community resource and media makerspace, and I think it will be a great venue for The Soundpost Sessions.
What do you want everyone to know about the Longmont Creative District?
I recently moved to a new office space downtown at 229 Terry St. It’s in a building which was built in 1912 and is one of the best examples of prairie-style bungalow architecture in the state. The arts and crafts style interior woodwork is beautiful! One little-known fact is that the entire building was actually moved a few blocks down Terry Street to its current location in the 1980’s after it was bought by a law firm. A few interior cracks are still visible from the move, but the structure is still in good shape today!
