BRANDY COONS, CURATOR AT FIREHOUSE ART CENTER
Who are you?
I'm an artist in a variety of mediums, and I work as the Curator for exhibits at the Firehouse Art Center, alongside various freelance projects. My personal art is usually about beautiful or absurd foods, cooking, or flowers or patterns inspired by vintage design. I do a fair amount of graphic design in my professional work, but I really love hands-on processes.
What are you up to?
I'm always playing with materials and trying new things. I will be photographing the ArtWalk Summer on the Streets events this summer, am currently casting vintage jello molds in the Firehouse ceramics studio, and will be exploring traditional printing processes that don't require a press. Right now I'm testing different methods to use water-based inks on wood block plates in my home studio, but next month I might do something completely different.
What do you want everyone to know?
If there is something you wish you knew about the arts in Longmont, it is so easy to reach out and ask someone! It's been my experience that our cultural organizations are excited about participation and feedback, and really want to hear from you if you'd like to be more involved.
